Recent Golden State Warriors forward finds new team
Former Golden State Warriors forward Anthony Lamb has found a new team, having been unable to garner a new NBA contract following his one-year stint with the franchise.
The 25-year-old has signed with the New Zealand Breakers of the NBL, according to ESPN’s Olgun Uluc on Sunday.
Anthony Lamb’s surprisingly impactful season with the Golden State Warriors was unable to materialize into another NBA deal.
According to Uluc, Lamb will meet up with the Breakers in Portland where they’re scheduled to face the Trail Blazers on Tuesday. New Zealand have already played two games in the new NBL season, splitting with one win and one loss.
Lamb’s contract does come with an NBA-out clause, allowing him to immediately sign with an NBA team should one come calling. Ironically, his addition to the Breakers roster comes as a replacement for Justinian Jessup — the Warriors 51st overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft who played Summer League with the franchise in 2021 and 2022.
After being a late addition to the training camp roster 12 months ago, Lamb’s preseason earned him a two-way contract above current player Lester Quinones and 2022 NBA champion Quinndary Weatherspoon
He made a legitimate impact with Golden State, winning the trust of head coach Steve Kerr in averaging nearly 20 minutes across 62 regular season appearances. Lamb averaged 6.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists, shooting 36.7% from three-point range.
Lamb’s form was rewarded with the Warriors converting him to a standard contract on March 17, making him eligible for the postseason. The 6’6″ forward was out of Kerr’s rotation regardless, appearing in six playoff games largely in garbage time.
Ongoing rape accusations from his time at the University of Vermont have no doubt hindered Lamb’s chances of another NBA contract. He has played 88 career games across three seasons with Golden State, the San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Rockets.
