The Golden State Warriors are entering a bit of a new era in the 2023-24 season as Bob Myers is no longer running the team’s basketball operations.

Still, that didn’t stop Golden State from making some major moves this offseason.

The Warriors re-signed Draymond Green, tying him to the team through the remainder of Steph Curry’s contract, and they also traded away Jordan Poole in a deal for Chris Paul.

Poole, who was instrumental in Golden State winning the title in the 2021-22 season, became the casualty as the team looked for financial flexibility this offseason. Paul, who was traded to the Washington Wizards in the Bradley Beal deal with Phoenix, found himself rerouted to Golden State where he will set the table for Curry and Klay Thompson.

Paul could be an interesting fit, as the Warriors have struggled in the non-Curry minutes in recent seasons. Will he be the difference that brings Golden State back to the Finals? Oddsmakers aren’t as sold on that.

However, the Warriors are expected to take a step forward – at least based on their odds for the 2023-24 season – after finishing with the No. 6 seed in the West last season.

If you’re looking for more NBA futures, I shared 15 (!!) futures that I’m betting on in the 2023-24 season in the first edition of “Peter’s Points.”

Here’s a deep dive into the Warriors’ outlook in the betting market this season:

Golden State Warriors NBA championship odds

The Warriors are sixth in the odds to win the NBA Finals this season, behind only the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers for Western Conference teams.

There is reason to believe that Golden State could take a step forward in the 2023-24 campaign, as Paul should bring some stability to the team’s lineup when Curry is on the bench and Andrew Wiggins is back and should play the entire season barring an injury.

Still, the Warriors are aging, and they’ll need youngsters like Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga and potential first-round pick Brandin Podziemski to help them make a deep playoff run.

Golden State Warriors win total prediction for 2023-24 season

Golden State comes in with a win total projection of 47.5 games, a number it has cleared in just one season since Kevin Durant left the franchise.

Injuries have contributed to that, but with four again stars, can we expect the Warriors to play their best players enough to clear this total?

I’d lean towards the UNDER as the West saw just three teams with 48 or more wins last season.

Golden State Warriors playoff odds

With -430 odds, the Warriors have an implied probability of 81.13 percent to make the playoffs in the 2023-24 season.

It would be a shock to see the team miss the postseason unless Curry went down, and Golden State was able to avoid the play-in tournament last season despite winning just 11 of its 41 road games. If the team can improve a little in that department, it should make the playoffs with ease.

Golden State Warriors 2023-24 season outlook

There are reasons that Golden State could win the Finals (Curry is one of the league’s best players, Paul brings more consistency than Poole, more health for Wiggins), but this team has to see something from the younger role players.

Letting DiVincenzo walk and losing Anthony Lamb and Ty Jerome might mean Golden State is finally prioritizing developing Moody and Kuminga into players the team can actually trust in the playoffs.

Moody played well in his postseason action in the 2022-23 season, but the team needs him to be a nightly contributor for all 82 games.

Curry is still playing at an MVP level – we’ll get to his futures in the next section – but Thompson was awful in the playoffs last season, struggling to score efficiently.

How much longer can he and Green hold on if their offensive games continue to slip?

It’s hard to discount this team because of Curry’s greatness, but the Warriors are hard to trust until we see how this team looks through the first few weeks of the season.

Golden State Warriors players to bet in awards markets

Stephen Curry – MVP

Curry is one of my favorite bets to win the league’s MVP award this season, and I broke down why in my 2023-24 NBA season preview on BetSided:

I am worried about Curry hitting the 65-game threshold, but his impact is undeniable. Golden State was +5.8 points per 100 possessions with him on the floor last season and -2.2 points per 100 possessions with him off.

I think the Warriors have some room for improvement after posting a dreadful road record last season (11-30), and that could push them into the top three in the Western Conference.

Curry is coming off his best season efficiency wise since the 2018-19 campaign, a sign that he’s still on top of his game. With Chris Paul potentially setting him up to play off the ball a little more, Steph’s scoring numbers could take a jump as well. He’s the furthest I’ll go down the odds board for now as this market shakes out early in the season.
