The Golden State Warriors have seemingly completed their roster ahead of opening night, with former first-round pick Dalen Terry among three players waived on Saturday.

Terry impressed in preseason but has fallen victim to a roster crunch, leaving the young wing likely headed for Santa Cruz in the G League along with former second-round pick Alex Toohey and forward Tyler Burton.

Terry put his name up in lights with an impressive performance against the Trail Blazers last week, having more than taken his opportunity to play big minutes as the Warriors opted against sending effectively their entire main rotation to Portland on the second night of a back-to-back.

The 24-year-old fell just shy of a triple-double, going for 23 points, eight rebounds, nine assists and four steals in nearly 43 minutes. Terry also shot an impressive 4-of-5 from 3-point range, leading the Warriors to what was nearly an upset victory as they fell to a 123-118 loss.

Terry played in five of Golden State's six preseason games, averaging 6.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists in just 13 minutes while shooting 50% from the floor and 50% from 3-point range.

Having recovered from a knee injury that wiped out his first year with Golden State and led to him being waived from his two-way contract, Toohey averaged seven minutes in four games during the preseason where he posted 2.5 points on 50% shooting while making his only two 3-point attempts. Burton, meanwhile, made only one preseason appearance after being signed earlier in the week.

Dalen Terry could still get another NBA opportunity

While Terry is now almost certainly headed for Santa Cruz and will be out of the league for the moment, he does possess an intriguing on and off-ball skillset which, combined with good 6'6" size, gives him a pathway to returning to the NBA if he can dominate over the coming months in the G League.

Terry will be one player with a keen eye on what the Warriors do at the mid-season trade deadline. If they make a consolidation trade that opens up a roster spot or two, he may be at the front of the queue to fill a backend spot following the deadline.

Toohey and Burton will be able to use the G League and impressive performances there to potentially springboard onto a two-way contract, either later this season or perhaps in the years ahead.
