Former Golden State Warriors center James Wiseman appears one step closer to completing his return to the league, with the New York Knicks waiving veteran big men Drew Eubanks and Tony Bradley on Thursday.

Wiseman has been with the Knicks on a training camp deal this preseason, but the departures of Eubanks and Bradley — both of whom were also on Exhibit 9 deals — would signal the former Warrior has a good chance of making the opening night roster.

New York also waived another of their training camp participants in Ochai Agbaji, leaving Wiseman and former Denver Nuggets champion Bruce Brown seemingly fighting it out for the final spot ahead of next week’s season opener against the new-look Philadelphia 76ers.

The Knicks do have two available roster spots right now, but they’re too close to the second apron — and are unwilling to go past it — to be able to keep both Wiseman and Brown past the end of the preseason.

Wiseman delivered a notable performance against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night, with the former second overall pick dropping an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double on 7-of-8 shooting in less than 24 minutes as a starter. Brown also started and had five points, four rebounds and two assists in less than 18 minutes.

It now seemingly comes down to which position the New York front office believe they need greater depth, but the fact none of their three two-way contracted players are centers should give Wiseman some hope that they lean in his direction. Not to mention he may also have head coach Mike Brown in his corner after developing a relationship at the Warriors earlier in the decade.

James Wiseman making Knicks roster would continue NBA journey

Wiseman looked lost to the league when he was waived by the Indiana Pacers last season, having played only four games and just one the year prior after brutally tearing his achilles in the 2024-25 season opener.

After being touted as a future superstar and a potential face of the Warriors after Stephen Curry, Wiseman has played just 152 career games with Golden State, Detroit and Indiana since being taken only behind Anthony Edwards at the 2020 NBA Draft.

Perhaps he’ll add to those career games though, with a legitimate chance his NBA journey will continue after the Knicks’ roster moves on Thursday.
