Golden State Warriors: Brazilian forward, two-way guard lead another G League victory
Santa Cruz have continued their winning start to the G League season, with Golden State Warriors' pair Gui Santos and Lester Quinones leading a fifth-straight win against the Salt Lake City Stars in Utah on Tuesday.
After pouring in 125 points in a dominant win over the G League Ignite on Sunday, the Warriors tallied another 140 including 80 in the second-half as they completed a 140-126 comeback victory.
A combined 52 points from Golden State Warriors' duo Gui Santos and Lester Quinones has led Santa Cruz to another win and a 5-0 start to the G League season.
A 42-31 second-quarter helped Salt Lake to a 16-point half-time lead. 28th overall pick Brice Sensabaugh had 15 first-half points for the Stars, while ninth overall pick Taylor Hendricks tallied 11 as the hosts poured in 76 as a team.
It was all Santa Cruz in the second-half though, winning both the third and four-quarters by 15 points apiece. Santos finished with a team-high 27 points on an efficient 11-17 shooting and 4-7 from three-point range.
The Brazilian forward also added nine rebounds and four assists, following up from his strong 29-point outing against the G League Ignite on Friday. Santos was ably supported by two-way guard Lester Quinones, with the 23-year-old finishing with 25 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
They were two of eight Warrior players to score in double-digits in the team-orientated performance. Two-way center Usman Garuba again enjoyed the starting five role in the absence of Trayce Jackson-Davis, recording 15 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and three steals in the 14-point win.
Sensabaugh and Hendricks led the Stars with 28 and 22 points respectively, but Salt Lake were unable to limit the Warriors who shot 48% from the floor and 40% on 50 attempts from three-point range.
Santa Cruz remain as one of only two unbeaten teams through the early part of the G League season. They'll next face the 4-1 Ontario Clippers at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday.
