Golden State Warriors: Potential trade targets expected to be gettable before deadline
Having been one of the most disappointing teams in the league through the first quarter of the season, the Golden State Warriors are likely to be active at the NBA trade deadline should their struggles continue.
The Warriors don't just need a role player capable of filling minutes -- they have enough genuine depth that extends to rookie pair Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis. What they don't have is enough top-end talent, with the franchise desperately needing a secondary scorer behind superstar Stephen Curry.
Toronto Raptors' pair Pascal Siakam and O.G. Anunoby could be attainable for the Golden State Warriors before the trade deadline
Toronto Raptors' forward Pascal Siakam continues to be a player linked to Golden State, among a number of teams who will have interest in the two-time All-Star. Any Siakam trade discussion has always been predicated on Toronto's willingness to trade him, something that hasn't been forthcoming over the last couple of years.
That could be about to change though as speculation heats up before the February 8 deadline, with Siakam and teammate O.G. Anunoby on the precipice of being attainable according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.
""But Toronto has lost three games in a row, stands 9-13 on the season and has left teams believing that now, more than ever, either Siakam or Anunoby could be traded by the Feb. 8 deadline."
Siakam is making $37.9 million on the final year of his contract, adding intrigue to how much the Warriors or any other team would be willing to give up value-wise in a trade. Anunoby too can be a free agent in the offseason, with the 26-year-old expected to opt out of his $19.9 million player option for 2024-25.
Golden State held interest in Anunoby prior to last season's deadline, but were ultimately unwilling to meet Toronto's demands for the 6'7" wing. Given their need for a second scorer behind Curry, Siakam might be a bigger target this time around.
Any trade for Siakam would likely start with Canadian-native Andrew Wiggins or the expiring $30.8 million contract of Chris Paul. Third-year forward Jonathan Kuminga would likely be included, along with other young and future assets.
Siakam is averaging 20.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists this season, but is shooting a paltry 21.2% from three-point range. Anunoby is averaging 15.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting a healthy 39.4% from beyond the arc.
