Stephen Curry caps off another historic night to snap Golden State Warriors' losing streak
On a night where he extended his all-time shooting record in becoming the first player in history to drain 3,500 three-pointers, Stephen Curry ensured the Golden State Warriors' three-game losing streak came to its conclusion against the Brooklyn Nets.
The franchise superstar had 16 points in the fourth-quarter and 37 for the game, lifting the Warriors out of a hole where they threatened to blow yet another double-digit lead in the second-half.
Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combined for 61 points as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Brooklyn Nets at Chase Center on Saturday
Golden State produced one of their best halves of the season in the opening 24 minutes, firing on all cylinders offensively as they shot 51.1% from the floor and 58.8% from three-point range. A patient but highly effective Klay Thompson led the way with 16 points, helping the Warriors to 70 as a team and a 16-point lead.
Yet as they have inevitably done in recent times, the Warriors proved incapable of maintaining their sizeable lead in the second-half. Brooklyn, led by an explosive 41 points from young guard Cam Thomas, cut the lead to six after a 35-25 third-quarter.
The visitors climbed the mountain and took the lead early in the fourth, forcing Golden State head coach Steve Kerr into bringing Curry back earlier than he would have liked. The two-time MVP answered the call, scoring 12-straight Warrior points that briefly extended the lead back to eight.
But the win was never going to be easy for the home team, such has been their history so far this season. The Nets continued to make plays offensively, and even had a Spencer Dinwiddie open corner three that would have put them back in front with less than 90 seconds to play.
Mikal Bridges, who had 15 in the second-half following a quiet opening, missed a near point-blank layup that would have tied the game in the final 25 seconds. Instead, Curry went down the other end and put the final stop on another huge night for the 35-year-old.
Curry's 37 came on 14-22 shooting and 6-8 from three-point range, while also recording a career-high three blocks. Thompson was quieter in the second-half but made a pair of big jumpshots in clutch time, finishing with 24 points to follow his season-high 30 against the LA Clippers on Thursday.
Starting in place of Andrew Wiggins again, rookie Brandin Podziemski stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Wiggins himself was more aggressive in his second game off the bench, scoring 14 points and collecting five rebounds in over 26 minutes.
The Warriors shot 48.4% from the field and made 17 of their 32 (53.1%) three-point attempts. They also committed less turnovers and took more free-throws, aiding them to just their sixth win in the last 19 games.
Curry's heroics pushes Golden State to 11-14 record, with little time to rest as the travel to Portland to face the Trail Blazers at Moda Center on Sunday night.
