Stephen Curry can end any speculation by signing an extension with the Golden State Warriors when he becomes eligible to do so on August 29, but the question is, will he?
LeBron James' decision to sign with the Sixers over the Warriors in free agency cast even more attention on Curry's situation and what will be next for him. In case you didn't know, there always has to be at least one star in the NBA who could be on the move that everyone focuses on. With LeBron's future settled, Curry is now the player to watch, given his contract status. How lucky!
The questions have been swirling. Would Curry actually consider going elsewhere, to a team he could compete for his fifth title? Or is he content on riding it out in the Bay, the only NBA home he's ever known?
If you go off what he's said (which is what matters, right?!), Curry will stay where he is. He's made it clear on several occasions that he wants to be a Warrior for life, but of course, he can change his mind.
In a few weeks, Curry will be eligible to sign a two-year maximum extension with Golden State, and if he does, that will tell the organization and fan base everything they need to know. It will be the clearest sign that he's exactly where he wants to be, and that, at 38, he still wants to see things through with the Warriors.

A few weeks ago, Anthony Slater of ESPN said that the Warriors were "very open" to signing Curry to a one-or-two-year deal. Shortly after that, he reported that there was "mutual interest" between the two sides in agreeing to an extension when the time comes.
All signs indicate that Golden State wants to work out a new deal with Curry as it continues to balance winning (or at least trying to) for the rest of his career without sacrificing its future.
Golden State may not be in an ideal situation, but it's not necessarily in a bad one, either. The Warriors will have the cap space to make a run at a star-level player next summer to pair alongside Curry (and build around once he retires), but that's assuming he will still be around.
He could opt to start the season without signing a new deal, wanting to see how things play out. It could mean that he's weighing whether he wants to be in the best possible position to win another championship, which won't be in Golden State, at least not next season. And it's important to note that even if Curry holds off on an extension, it won't guarantee his exit.
If he's committed to seeing things through to the end with the Warriors, he could stay right where he is. What matters to him is winning, but the chance to do that anywhere else may not hold any real weight for him. Again, he has always been all about Golden State.
Time will soon tell if he still feels that way.
