Stephen Curry has spoken for the first time after becoming extension eligible on Saturday, reiterating his commitment to the Golden State Warriors despite an underwhelming offseason for the franchise.
Curry is in no rush to sign an extension but says it will happen at the right time, giving Warrior fans what they wanted to hear after telling Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area that "there’s no question I want to be here the rest of my career."

Curry is entering the final year of his deal making $62.6 million and is eligible to sign a two-year, $136.7 million extension. There has been a suggestion that Curry should wait in order to place some pressure on the front office after a summer of inactivity where they missed on superstars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James.
Yet such an idea doesn't seem to be on the mind of Curry who doesn't want his contract situation to become a distraction for the team, particularly when they need everything to go right as they begin the season without injured duo Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody.
“The deal and the contract stuff will happen at the right time, and we're not letting it be a distraction from our preparation for the season, and the fact that the team we’re coming back with has a lot of familiarity,” Curry said.
While there's no anxiety or concerns right now after Curry's comments on Monday, the reality is that the longer the two-time MVP waits to sign an extension, the more speculation that will rise over his future. Curry will become a free agent next year if he doesn't sign an extension between now and then.

If we get to opening night in late October and Curry hasn't signed an extension, then more questions may be asked as to why it hasn't been forthcoming. That will inevitably lead to rival fans believing their team could acquire the 38-year-old, whether in free agency next year or via a blockbuster trade prior to February's mid-season deadline.
Such an idea still seems preposterous at this stage, albeit there is some increased pressure on the front office and the team to get off to a good start after failing to make the playoffs in two of the past three years.
Curry himself will be looking to bounce back after appearing in only 43 games last season, though he still averaged an impressive 26.6 points and 4.7 assists when healthy.
