Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is in China right now promoting his new shoe deal with the company Li-Ning. One video of Curry appearing to get out of a car in labored fashion as he went to a workout in Beijing drew quite a bit of attention on social media, but fans freaking out need to have a little perspective.
Curry looked like he was limping in a minor way as he made his way out of the car, but it’s important to keep in mind he just got off a long flight to China which is roughly 13 to 15 hours of flying from San Francisco. Not only that, but he’s getting out of a car so his legs probably aren’t going to be completely limber.
Anyone who just saw the Los Angeles Rams get trounced by the San Francisco 49ers in Australia knows that you’re probably going to be sluggish your first day or two in a different country with a totally different time zone.
Then there’s the fact that he’s 38-years old-and dealt with runners’ knee last season, keeping him out for a good chunk of the year. The guy isn’t a spring chicken anymore, meaning he’s not going to be doing cartwheels on his way to practice.

Warriors do need to be careful with Steph Curry this season
That’s just the reality with Curry at this point, but this video shouldn’t be used as evidence to suggest that he’s washed or that he’s only going to play in 20 games next year. It’s just a reminder of the fact that Curry is not going to play forever, and that it’s important for Warriors fans to cherish him while he is still with the team.
He’s proven that when he’s on the court he is still one of the most special players in the game. He went up against Victor Wembanyama in two straight games last year and got the best of him, proving to anyone that starts the “Unc” slander that he can still hang with the youngsters.
The Warriors are probably going to have to be more conscious of Curry’s workload going forward though. Head coach Steve Kerr needs to find the best way to keep his star fresh and prevent too much wear and tear on the body.
That almost certainly means no more back-to-backs with Curry and his minutes should be monitored closely next year. The hard part is that the Warriors have always struggled when he’s not on the floor, leaving a difficult balance as Golden State seek a return to the playoffs.
They have little choice though. Resting Curry is essential and that has nothing to do with how he looked getting out of a car in Beijing, and everything to do with the fact that he’s 38 and probably only has a few more NBA seasons left in him.
