The Golden State Warriors and even Kristaps Porzingis himself have moved to provide some kind of update over his status on Wednesday, with the veteran center set to miss the start of the regular season which gets underway against the Los Angeles Lakers in a week.

Porzingis even went as far to clarify on social media that he doesn't have HIV or aids, but the update from both he and the Warriors still leaves more questions than answers when it comes to the former All-Star's potential timeline on returning to the floor.

Kristaps Porzingis update still leaves more questions than answers

Golden State have announced that Porzingis met with Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Rick Celebrini on Tuesday, yet provided no clarity beyond the fact that the 31-year-old will remain out indefinitely. The statement declared that a timeline "will be provided when available and appropriate."

Porzingis himself then made a statement on X (formerly Twitter), telling fans that he's working with doctors and experts to get to the bottom of his situation, while seemingly remaining positive in what he admits is a frustrating situation.

There are obvious questions from everyone on what exactly Porzingis is dealing with, and that's leading to so much speculation that it's kind of sad the Latvian has been forced to publicly address rumors from what he describes as 'internet doctors'.

Much of the interest here and the questions surrounding Porzingis' health stems from his importance to the Warriors and their hopes. This is the final years of Stephen Curry's career, and the trade Golden State made for Porzingis in February, and the extension they subsequently gave him before free agency, would suggest that he was supposed to be a major part of this period.

Warriors fans are rightfully questioning Kristaps Porzingis' contract extension

Two things can be true. Fans can be empathetic for Porzingis, his situation and what he's going through, particularly when there's seemingly so much uncertainty which is often the toughest part of such a health concern.

But that doesn't mean fans don't have the right to question the front office on why they gave Porzingis a two-year, $40 million extension when this uncertainty still clearly existed. It's not a direct question Dunleavy and others have to answer publicly right now, but it's one that will have to be addressed at some point in the future if Porzingis can't get back on the floor consistently.

Porzingis played just 32 combined games with the Warriors and Atlanta Hawks last season, and there's now real doubt hovering over his ability to play the 55-60+ games Golden State will likely need in order to be a playoff team this season.
