The Golden Stare Warriors seem to be content to run it back, but there was still hope this offseason that they could make some sort of move. Even if it was as small and nostalgia-filled one such as landing Klay Thompson, at least that would’ve made some fans feel better about the underwhelming offseason.
Yet, not even that worked out as Thompson is now headed to the Miami Heat after the Dallas Mavericks agreed to buy out his contract. So much for the nostalgia play.
That leaves the Warriors with really limited options going forward. There aren’t many players they can sign who would meaningfully improve the team and it seems they are too concerned about holding onto their future draft picks to make any sort of big trade for a player.
At this point, everything the Warriors do should be about making Stephen Curry happy. He’s not a diva and isn’t going to make a stink about things the way someone like LeBron James would if he was upset, but he is still the nucleus of this franchise and, absent any other genuine plan, the Warriors need to make sure Curry wants to stay in Golden State even if everyone knows the team is no longer a championship contender.
Curry has to be happy for his former Splash Brother, but there has to be disappointment as well. It’s just another instance of the team missing out on a guy who would have made sense on the team and those disappointments add up.
Warriors need to keep the Curry brothers together next season
That is why the Warriors need to bring back Steph Curry’s brother, Seth Curry, to keep him happy for at least one more year. Seth hardly played at all last season due to injury. He looked pretty good whenever he was out on the floor, but it’s fair to wonder just how available he will be at this point in his career.
Still, if he can at least play in half the teams games next season, which is realistic even if it’s slightly optimistic, and be a serviceable three-point threat off the bench, then at least he can help the team out all while getting to hang out with his brother for another year.
Seth could end up being Golden State’s version of the Los Angeles Lakers keeping Bronny James around just to appease LeBron. Steph obviously wouldn’t demand his brother stay around the way James would demand his son stay on the team, but the Warriors have to make sure their star remains happy and is at least having fun going forward.
Even though Steph missed a lot of time last season, most of the games he missed at least coincided with sitting next to his brother on the bench which must’ve been at least a little enjoyable. Who will he watch games with next season on the bench if his brother isn’t there?
It would elicit eye rolls and smart jokes from fans, but at this point the Warriors might as well fully commit to the bit and bring Seth Curry back because he could still be a somewhat valuable player, and it would keep Steph happy which is really all that matters at this point.
