There's an air of confidence in Yaxel Lendeborg that you need to be a great player, but also a level of basketball maturity and understanding that the Golden State Warriors haven't necessarily got from their other recent lottery picks.
That's the bonus of selecting an older prospect with multiple years of college experience, leaving Lendeborg asking the right questions and bringing a winning mindset that wasn't so apparent among other lottery picks in the past decade who, in contrast, were wildly inexperienced entering the league.

After coming off the NCAA championship with Michigan followed by a Summer League title in his first weeks as a Warrior player, Lendeborg simply wants to continue that winning habit and bring the Warriors back to major relevance.
Lendeborg displayed the balance of confidence and winning attitude at media day, stating, "I feel like I could be Rookie of the Year, but that's not my main focus." Lendeborg knows himself and the state of the Warrior roster. He knows he'll likely get the needed playing time to win such an award, but would prefer to be a major cog in a winning machine.
It's that aspect that stands out most to injured All-Star Jimmy Butler who referenced Lendeborg's college experience and what that does to a young player's attitude entering the league.
"I think whenever you bring in younger guys they all just want to get busy and get to it right away, scoring and doing all these things. He can do that at a high level, but all the questions that he asks is about 'how can I help to win?' That's what you get whenever you get a guy that's played in college a couple years. They know what it takes to win and they know it's not all about scoring," Butler said.

Yaxel Lendeborg won't see same team success as recent lottery picks
The irony here is that Lendeborg will bring a winning mindset and mentality that other recent lottery picks didn't early on, yet in all likelihood the 6'9" forward won't taste anywhere near the immediete success from a team standpoint.
James Wiseman (second overall pick in 2020), Jonathan Kuminga (seventh pick in 2021) and Moses Moody (14th pick in 2021) were all part of Golden State's 2022 championship team in what was their first and second seasons respectively.
Their impact on that championship was limited though, and in the case of Wiseman and Kuminga, perhaps they've never fully grasped the winning mentality Lendeborg is now bringing across their multiple stops around the league.
Things are still to play out on the court starting on Sunday in the Warriors' first preseason game against the L.A. Clippers, but Lendeborg is quite clearly putting himself in position to make an impact right away.
