Why Golden State Warriors Fans Need Not Panic

The Golden State Warriors have set the pace for much of the NBA season this year, but a recent struggle has left questions about whether or not they can sustain their success. Despite going 3-3 on their recent road trip, it is no time to panic as they look forward to returning to home comforts on Wednesday.

Impressive wins over the Washington Wizards and Toronto Raptors coupled with that comeback against the Boston Celtics would have given Coach Steve Kerr much to cheer about. However, losses to the Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Brooklyn Nets would have naturally dampened spirits slightly.

For any team in the NBA, consistency is key over a grueling 82-game regular season, and unfortunately the Warriors haven’t displayed the level needed at this level over the course of the past fortnight. While that may worry some; in context, it really is a small bump in the road for Kerr and his players. They will now have the opportunity to bounce back having had time to rest ahead of a return to the Oracle Arena.

The recent road trip saw them travel for 11 days with three games in three nights included. Such a schedule will take its toll on any team no matter how deep, and so the three-day rest period will have been important for the team to regroup.

Every great team will face adversity at some stage of the season, and even though this still isn’t that serious, it will be down to Golden State to react positively.

In addition, it is worth considering the opposition that they lost to. The Pacers are one of the most in-form teams in the league at this stage while the Cavaliers are a formidable team to face, especially on the road. The loss to the Nets is arguably the one that will irritate the most, with Jarrett Jack breaking hearts with his late jumper to seal the win, but even Brooklyn have looked much improved recently.

However, with that context, it is clear that things shouldn’t be blown out of proportion for the Warriors. The real test will come now over the course of the next three games when they face the Bucks, Mavericks and Clippers. Every great team will face adversity at some stage of the season, and even though this still isn’t that serious, it will be down to Golden State to react positively and get back to winning ways in front of its home fans.

The Warriors remain top of the Western Conference with a 46-12 record, while the Memphis Grizzlies are still four-and-a-half games adrift in second spot.

Admittedly, the road record of 22-10 is slightly worrying as Kerr will know that his team will need to find ways to win away from home, but there is no questioning their form at the Oracle having gone 24-2.

The Clippers game in particular will be key to restart their season, as with the rivalry building between the two franchises a solid win will give Kerr, the players and the fans all the boost that they will need heading down the final stretch of the regular season.
