Andre Iguodala tweeted cryptic messages this morning, that had NBA Twitter scrambling to understand it.

Social media is a wonderful tool for players who want to control their own narratives and want to create a brand.

Sometimes it gets guys in trouble. The D’Angelo Russell/Nick Young saga comes to mind in that case. Some times players like Brandon Jennings like to chime in on whatever conversation is happening, acting like a fan at times. Other times, players use it promote their brands and activities. Guys like Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James use it sparingly, with a clear-cut point in mind.

Then there’s Andre Iguodala.

Iguodala is one of the most intelligent players in the NBA. He has been setting himself up for life after basketball by networking and creating relationships with various partners, getting the most out of the resources and opportunities that the Bay Area has to offer. On the court. his basketball IQ has lifted the Warriors to a championship. Off the court, he’s elevating himself.

The former All-Star always knows what he’s doing at all times; he’s a chess master while everyone else is playing checkers. He’s incredibly self-aware while keeping his ears to the ground and knowing what’s going on around him.

Few guys use Twitter the way he does.

Free agency has started and the Golden State Warriors going after Durant with everything they have. It had been reported early on that both Curry and Klay Thompson were going to be at their meeting with KD in New York. Then Draymond Green was added to the mix. A late surprise was the presence of Iguodala, who matched up with Durant a lot during the Western Conference Finals.

But as ESPN’s Marc Stein noted, perhaps Iguodala’s addition to “Operation Durant” tactical team wasn’t really a surprise.

The “no accident” phrasing is awkward, but the point still stands. Iguodala and Durant know each other. The Warriors’ sixth man is also a key part of the team’s pitch in creating a Super Death Lineup with Durant. Iguodala, along with the three All-NBA players on the team, are all appealing to Durant.

A few hours after the meeting reportedly ended–the one that “went very well” (of course it did)–Iguodala took to Twitter to post one his cryptic messages.

Welp.

Of course, Warriors Twitter fell even further down the Durant sweepstakes wormhole. They had some fun with it.

Less than an hour later, Iguodala went back on Twitter.

DID THEY SIGN HIM?????

It’s most likely a reaction to many of his NBA friends getting huge deals, including Evan Turner‘s 4 year, $75 million deal with the Portland Trailblazers.

Next: Five free agents to pursue

Most likely, neither of those tweets were about Durant or the Warriors’ free agency moves. But, make no mistake, Iguodala knew exactly what he was doing. Giving us just enough to have us talking and for some of us (me) writing. He is to Twitter trolling what Steph Curry is to shooting a basketball.

Iguodala is probably at home laughing with his pre-cap rise contract and Finals MVP trophy, watching the world burn at his expense.
