Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green did not hold back on his thoughts regarding the way New York Knicks owner James Dolan treated Charles Oakley.

Like many sports leagues around the world, the NBA is a brotherhood, a fraternity among players. They look out for their own and the best interests of all players past and present. The situation between NBA alum Charles Oakley and New York Knicks owner Charles Oakley, has prompted players to stand together to stick up for the former enforcer. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has always been one to stand up for what he believes in and he’s the latest to speak his mind on the situation.

Like Oakley, Green is a player that isn’t afraid to get physical and be the muscle for the Warriors. It takes a special mind to play that role and Green really emphasized in his podcast what Oakley did for the team. He also mentioned how when Oakley finally spoke out, he wasn’t allowed to after giving everything he had for the team. On the “Dray Dray” podcast, Green referred to what Dolan is doing to Oakley as a “slave master mentality” and did not hold back (transcribed via SI).

"“You doing it for me, it’s all good. You doing it against me — you speaking out against my organization — it’s not good anymore? That’s a slave mentality. A slave master mentality. That’s ridiculous,”"

Green is just the latest NBA superstar to come out in support of Oakley. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and others have already been very vocal about much they respect and support the former Knicks legend. With Green though, it’s a reminder that the work enforcers do in this game often goes underappreciated.

Battling on the boards, getting under the skin of the opposition and doing the dirty work is a thankless task. Like Oakley, Green has had to do plenty of those things in his time for Golden State. He knows what Oakley has meant for guys like him in this game.

Oakley was one of the faces of 90’s basketball and his toughness left an impact on many players who continue to play the game. Until the situation is completely resolved, expect more and more players to stand up for one of their own.
