With a tight cap situation, the Golden State Warriors could lose some key pieces in free agency. it doesn’t look like Andre Iguodala will be one of them.

The Golden State Warriors are currently on a quest to bring home another NBA Championship. Roster moves and the future are likely the furthest thing on the mind for the players right now. However, the front office still has their job to do and has to make sure they’re ready for the upcoming NBA Draft and free agency amid the chase for a championship.

With a tight budget to work with thanks to the addition of Kevin Durant to the roster, the team could lose some depth in free agency. However, they have been giving young players minutes and have been working to develop their young guys in the event of these departures.

One key free agent for the Warriors is Andre Iguodala. The man that is a favorite for the Sixth Man of the Year award could very well be a top commodity in free agency by another team that has a ton of money. That could make things tough on the Warriors to retain him. However, keeping his bird rights would go a long way in re-signing him.

According to Real GM, Andre Iguodala is “likely” to return to the Golden State Warriors in free agency. By keeping his bird rights, it would allow the Warriors to be able to go over the cap to keep his services. Real GM does point out however that the number of years on a potential deal will also have a great impact on bringing him back.

The good news with this report is that Golden State would be keeping one of the best players off the bench in the league and a major voice in the locker room. He’s one of those guys that people have been pointing to as a possible departure with the team needing to get Kevin Durant on a new deal.

Being able to keep Iguodala would be a massive coup for Bob Myers and the excellent staff that he and his staff have done thus far. Things certainly can change, especially if other teams come with big offers but this report should make fans very optimistic.
