Kevin Durant, the Golden State Warriors’ star, has had a strained relationship with Russell Westbrook and that might have continued.

Kevin Durant is playing in the NBA Finals for only the second time in his career. The first time he also faced off against LeBron James, but they were both wearing different uniforms. Durant was suiting up for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Durant has been elite for years. His Thunder teams always had high expectations heading into the season, but for one reason or another, they couldn’t live up to them. So he decided to leave for greener pastures.

The Thunder weren’t great only because of Durant, but also Russell Westbrook. The fiery point guard grew with Durant, reached the NBA Finals with him, and failed with him. When Durant went down with injury, Westbrook took over and clearly established himself as one of the best players in the league.

They were the best duo in basketball. Despite that, there always seemed to be tension. They just couldn’t put it together and after losing in the Western Conference Finals after building a 3-1 lead over the Golden State Warriors, the 2014 MVP packed his bags for the Bay Area.

The relationship between the two was strained. What was once a dynamic duo were now enemies. Westbrook immediately took a shot at his former teammate with an Instagram post.

It seems like Westbrook is back to taking passive aggressive shots on social media. During Game 1 of the NBA Finals between Durant and the Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers, he made it very clear that he wasn’t tuning in.

Yes, that is a finalist for the NBA MVP watching a Whoopi Goldberg movie from the 1990s during the NBA Finals. Instead of tuning into ABC, he sang along to Sister Act (which, admittedly, is a really good movie). He did not care to see Durant.

Westbrook and Durant haven’t really known what to do with each other. During All-Star weekend they seemed to ignore each other until they connected for an alley-oop. Still, their relationship was a work in progress, despite Kendrick Perkins’ revelation that they were on speaking terms again.

To be fair to Westbrook, he has said that he doesn’t really watch basketball. Perhaps some of his problems would be solved if he did so, but alas he doesn’t. So maybe this isn’t him refusing to watch the game out of spite.

Broadcasting his indifference to the world via Snapchat was completely intentional though. Even if he didn’t have any intention of the game–regardless of participants–he knew the buzz that posting his activity onto Snapchat would generate. He know that publicly ignoring Durant would start a conversation.

Westbrook probably just didn’t have any interest in the game, but he definitely had interest in drawing some attention.
