The Golden State Warriors should consider going after Vince Carter this summer.

The Golden State Warriors just won their second championship in three years. It’s unlikely that they’ll be able to put the same team back together and run it back. Sports just don’t work like that.

The Dubs will have to fill out their bench once again. After re-signing Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant to their max or near-max deals, the Dubs are going to have to find players at discounted rates. That’s where Vince Carter enters.

The 40 year old swingman is in the final years of his career. He would be a cheap replacement if and when Ian Clark signs a contract with someone that Golden State can’t and won’t match. At this stage of his career, he’d probably sign for the veteran minimum if he has a chance at a championship.

Carter played 24 minutes per game last year for the Memphis Grizzlies. He averaged 8 points and 3 rebounds per game during the season. He shot over 39 percent from the field and nearly 38 percent from beyond the arc.

He can space the floor with a bench unit that will (probably) include Andre Iguodala and (possibly) include Shaun Livingston. At 6’6, he can provide good length on the wing that would fit in nicely with what the Warriors like to do defensively. For the price, it could be worth a look if you’re the Warriors.

Golden State is going to have to replace a few players this offseason. They will need to find veterans willing to take smaller contracts in exchange for a ring. Carter fits that mold.
