The Mavericks are a team full of veterans that do not necessarily have the physical ability to keep up with some of the younger, faster teams in the league. They are not a deep team, but the talent of the front six is undeniable.

The Mavericks acquired guards Jose Calderon and Monta Ellis in the offseason. Calderon is an underrated point guard that has the ability to lead veteran teams. Ellis, though a polarizing player, is undeniably one of the most explosive players in the league. His ability to get into the paint and finish creatively will give the Mavericks a dynamic guard in his prime.

Vince Carter, though projected to be the sixth man, can play big minutes at the small forward position. Carter had one of his best seasons since his days in New Jersey and if he can continue that trend, will make a huge difference in spreading the floor.

Shawn Marion is likely to start at the small forward position, but he can effectively play the power forward position as well. Marion, though not the strongest or fastest, knows how to finish around the rim. His defense gives him the ability to match up with bigger power forwards in the league.

Dirk Nowitzki is a natural power forward, but his height (7’0”) and jump shot creates mismatches for any defender at any position.

The Mavericks have a dynamic guard in Ellis to create openings and a bunch of shooters that space the floor effectively. Despite not having the athleticism up and down the lineup, their experience will help them win games they are physically outmatched.
