If there’s one thing that’s absolutely true about Andre Iguodala, it’s that there’s always more to him than meets the eye. Multi-faceted and complex, the 2015 Finals MVP hip-hop counterpart has to be someone equally as versatile and unique: Childish Gambino.
There is very little that Andre Iguodala can’t do on a basketball court. A defensive juggernaut, Iguodala can shut down anyone at any position in any situation. Offensively, the veteran forward is an extremely gifted passer, versatile enough to play a point-forward. Possessing elite athleticism has allowed Iguodala to finish with power above the rim. Furthermore, he doesn’t limit himself to just basketball–expressing a deep interest and passion for fashion and technology.
Childish Gambino–known as Donald Glover outside of the rap world–is equally as versatile. Before ever releasing any music, Childish Gambino was an established writer, actor, and comedian. Gambino took the rap game by storm with his unique flow and meticulously crafted lyrics. Glover doesn’t put all his eggs in one basket, constantly traveling between each category of artistic expression.
Though physically gifted, both men can attribute most of their success to their mental preparation and attention to detail. Childish Gambino’s combination of catchy punchlines and introspective projects exemplify an intellectual superiority in comparison to his contemporaries. Iguodala is a defensive savant with a mental scouting report on every player in the NBA. He approaches each matchup differently, denying his opponent his strength and forcing him into a weakness.
Cerebral, Andre Iguodala and Childish Gambino are always looking two steps ahead for a way to outdo any opposition. With his defensive savvy, Andre Iguodala just might find himself on an NBA team in the year 3005.
