Simply put, they’re on top of the game right now. Stephen Curry and Drake are the hottest in their respective fields right now. Curry transcends basketball and Drake’s reach extends beyond hip-hop. They represent the new era of basketball and music that completely disrupts the way both fields have always worked.
The Toronto native can do no wrong right now. He puts out smash record after smash record. Whether it’s releasing surprise mix tapes, doing a feature for up-and-coming artists, or making videos, everything Drake does is gold. It doesn’t matter if he’s singing or rapping, it’s always an instant hit.
Curry is coming off his best season as a professional, earning the Most Valuable Player award and winning his first NBA Championship. Curry’s year was about as good as it can get. He exploded into superstardom, creating a successful brand while doing whatever he wanted to on a basketball court. He is already the top sharpshooter ever while providing top play material on a nightly basis.
Curry and Drake will be forever linked as the hottest rap song of the year, “0-100,” featured Drake delivering the now-iconic lines “I been Steph Curry with the shot/Been cooking with the sauce, Chef Curry with the pot, boy.” The lyrics have become part of Curry’s legend while becoming one of Drake’s most recognizable bars.
Traditionally, hip-hop has been about artists going back and forth trying to establish who’s toughest. Drake, on the other hand, is willing to put his emotions into his songs. He’s mastered the art of rap-singing. He is the most influential artist in hip-hop right now, appealing to the toughest hip-hop fans and pop listeners. Much to the chagrin of many (looking at you Meek), Drake really does have the midas touch. His style disrupts what hip-hop has always been and it works perfectly.
Undersized point guards aren’t supposed to be the deadliest weapon in the whole league. He’s the face of the NBA’s newest revolutions. Long gone are the days of larger-than-life centers and unstoppable swingmen. Point guard is the premier position in the NBA right now. Furthermore, three-point usage is at an all-time high. You can’t win without shooting the long ball and no one does it better than Curry. Much to the chagrin of many (looking at you, Chuck), Curry has proven that you can win firing away from outside.
They’re on top and they’re not going anywhere. Few individuals influence social media as much as these two. Steph Curry vines and Drake lyrics flood Twitter timelines regularly.
Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors is a reigning MVP and defending champion. What a time to be alive.
