5 best uniforms in Warriors’ franchise history
1996-Present “The City”
Duh.
First of all, I know my years are off a little bit. The Warriors first wore these in 1966 and kept them for five years. Throughout their history, they’ve brought them back due to popular demand. They wore the blue ones in the late 90’s, both the blue and the yellow ones in the mid-2000’s, and the yellow ones in the 2015-16 season.
It’s the greatest uniform in basketball history.
I’m sure some Oakland fans are probably upset with this, but it’s true. These are just beautiful jerseys. The details are incredible and it has so much personality.
Warriors’ owner Franklin Mieuli wanted to create something that connected the Bay Area’s newest team to the community. He used people from surrounding cities referring to San Francisco as “the city” as his inspiration. He wanted to make them truly san Francisco.

And he did. The Golden Gate Bridge above the water on the front logo and the cable car on the stars in the back features two of the city’s most iconic attractions. It’s art on a jersey.
The first players to wear them weren’t thrilled by them; they were skeptical. But it was a bold move that definitely grabbed everyone’s attention. They didn’t use their hometown or team nickname, they used a nickname for their city; a confident statement that San Francisco really was the city.
Warriors’ greats from Rick Barry and Nate Thurmond to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson have worn them. It’s a beautiful, transcendent uniform that has had an incredible impact on Bay Area culture.
