Golden State Warriors: Klay Thompson rumors are nonsense
No, Klay Thompson isn’t leaving the Golden State Warriors. Yes, he is going to help bring them another NBA Championship this year.
It seems as if every year with the Golden State Warriors, there is some narrative that gets started about whether or not the team can keep their core together. It’s understandable where these thoughts come from, as the salary cap makes it hard to keep a bunch of top players on one team let alone four superstars. Nonetheless, that hasn’t stopped the Klay Thompson narrative from springing up during the beginning of the NBA Finals.

With Thompson set to become an unrestricted free agent after next season, that has created this little discussion among basketball Twitter and others about whether or not Thompson would leave to go be his own man of course. This all comes from nothing substantiated other than the fact his free agency is coming.
However, that is just the type of nonsense that those that follow Golden State closely and everyone has to deal with while the Warriors run through the rest of the league. Technically, it’s a good problem to have but it’s certainly an annoying one.
As for Thompson, where does his personality exactly scream that he wants to be the guy? If anything, he’s the complete opposite and has helped establish himself as one of the best players in the league by being unselfish and working through one of the best systems in the NBA. It’s hard to find a more relaxed player in the league than him.
Still, that hasn’t stopped Portland Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum from having a little fun on Twitter. He’s one of the better athlete handles on the social media giant as well.

Perhaps Tim Kawakami stated it best on Twitter, when he pointed out Thompson’s active recruitment of Durant. None of this Thompson being the man stuff lines up with his personality and his years of contribution as one of the best shooters in the league.
And by virtue of being on the Warriors’ roster, the team can go over the cap to do what it takes to afford him. Bob Myers and his staff have done an excellent job of keeping the core together and building one of the greatest teams the league has ever seen.

It would be hard for anyone to want to leave that, let alone one of the best teammates in the NBA. Thompson has become one with the bay area and can only continue to build upon his legacy by staying.
