Golden State Warriors 10 best moments from Game 1
Durant stares down Rihanna
The NBA Finals are a major event beyond the the basketball world. For celebrities, it’s a chance to be seen. It’s a social gathering. Courtside is a who’s who of famous people.
Stephen Curry was probably the fifth most famous person in the arena. Comedian Kevin Hart and businessman Jay-Z were in the building. But the star who stole the show was Rihanna.
The megastar musician has been known to frequent basketball games. She prefers the ones that Lebron James are playing in. Like many, she considers herself to be a huge fan of the Cavaliers star.
Jeff Van Gundy was very pleased to see Rihanna make her way to her seat. He was so distracted by her that he didn’t even talk about James’ amazing dunk that happened as she walked by. Can you blame him though? That’s Rihanna!
As I said, she’s a big James fan. So much so that last year she posted on social media about it, supporting her favorite player and mocking Stephen Curry. In Game 1, her primary target was Kevin Durant.
She, supposedly, yelled out “brick” during his free throws. She bowed down to James. And, if last year taught us anything, she was probably really loud, much to the chagrin of the Warriors fans around her.
KD wasn’t having it though.
After hearing her heckles all night long, Durant was done with it. He received the pass from Curry on the break and splashed the spot up three. After hitting it, he turned and stared down the R&B star.
Durant, who has tweeted in the past that he is quite fond of Rihanna, wasn’t all that high on her in that moment. Rihanna stormed off angrily, swearing and pledging her allegiance to the King as she made her way out of Oracle Arena.
It was the perfect ending to a great night for Durant. Didn’t they tell Rihanna that KD was a savage?
