Kevin Durant, the Golden State Warriors’ superstar forward, was criticized by Stephen A. Smith for his decision. Durant’s mom had words for Smith.

There are two things you should know about Kevin Durant. The first thing is that he is very good at basketball. Like, seriously, he’s an all-time talent.

The second thing you should know about Durant is that he loves his mama. It’s clear how strong that relationship is. They are extremely close.

Who could forget Durant’s 2014 NBA MVP speech? You’re not a human if you didn’t cry along with him. As he tearfully announced that his mom, Wanda (who was also in tears), was “the real MVP.”

Mama Durant would go to war for her children. Even though Kevin is a multi-millionnaire superstar in his late-20s, Wanda is going to continue to look out for him. She loves him unconditionally.

So she went on air to defend him. When Mama Durant decides to swing, she aims for the upper deck. Her target? Stephen A. Smith.

What makes her such a unique individual is that she’s able to separate basketball from real life. At the end of the day, everything that happens on the court should stay there. Real life events like the passing of Smith’s mother deserve sympathy and respect regardless of how you feel about his basketball opinions.

Smith was very outspoken about Durant’s decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder and join the Golden State Warriors. He called it the weakest move in the history of the league. He was one of the loudest voices when it came to disagreeing with the move.

Now, in the world of sports, it’s very easy to become irrational. Mama Durant tries to put that into perspective. She likened her son’s move to Smith’s own decision to join ESPN with other top sports figures.

It’s silly that we’re still talking about this decision nearly a year later. It happened and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. He made the choice that he felt was best for him, his career, and his family.

Kevin Durant is three wins away from being an NBA champion for the first time in his career. I don’t think he cares what people are saying about him. Hoisting that Larry O’Brien is the only thing that matters.

I think Mama Durant won this won. It turns out, you don’t have to yell loudly to make good points. You just have to…you know…make good points.
