It took a combination of history and strange to calls to keep the Golden State Warriors from perfection in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday night.

It’s very rare when a blowout leaves everyone talking, yet that’s what happened in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday night, as the Golden State Warriors failed to achieve perfection. It was a night for stranger things and the Cleveland Cavaliers were able to stave off elimination and send the series back to Oakland for Game 5.

From the beginning, it was a night of history and a night of confusion. The foul discrepancy in the first quarter was so bad, that Cleveland had 22 free throw attempts. Add in a hot night shooting beyond the arc and the team set an NBA record with 49 points in the first quarter.

It didn’t stop there on the night either. The Cavaliers set the NBA Finals record with 24 three-point field goals made. To take down the Warriors required every bit of effort and even history for it to happen. Kevin Love hitting the corner three became a staple of the game.

That covers the history side of things that led to the loss for the Warriors. As for the strange endeavors, the confusion over Draymond Green’s technical foul cast a shadow over the night, as poor officiating ruled the evening.

Green picked up what he believed to be his second technical foul of the night. He was so convinced that he was ejected, he began waving bye to the fans in Cleveland. His nice gesture aside, it turned out there was a scoring error and the first technical was on head coach Steve Kerr.

So not only were there free throws on an endless loop, no one could keep track of technical fouls. If that wasn’t enough, a review over a flagrant foul led to both LeBron James and Kevin Durant exchanging words. The two alpha males had plenty to say and neither backed down. Add in a fan being ejected for an incident with Matt Barnes and it topped it all off.

So, it wasn’t your standard loss for the Warriors. The run at perfection is over, but ultimately they can take home the NBA Championship with a victory on Monday night. At the very least, it can’t get stranger than this one.
