The 2017 NBA Draft is tonight and that means that the Golden State Warriors will have to buy in if they want to draft a player. They lost both picks in the deal that brought Andre Iguodala to the bay area and it’s doubtful anyone is losing sleep over it. Iguodala played a huge role on two championship teams and even won NBA Finals MVP.
However, the Warriors still auditioned some players, including Canyon Barry. He is of course the son of legendary Warrior, Rick Barry. Barry is a shooting guard with a lot of charisma and even shoots ‘granny’ foul shots just like his dad. Would it be worth it for the Warriors to trade in and get him?
it would certainly require giving up a future pick, but at this point in time, it’s likely Bob Myers wouldn’t hesitate if he felt the move was right. There’s always the chance he doesn’t get drafted, but the Warriors might not want to risk waiting to sign him.

After yet another championship run, what a PR move it would be for the team. Still, it’s about a lot more than that. Barry showed in the NCAA tournament that he has the tenacity to lead his team and made some heroic shots. It’s that kind of energy that fuels the Warriors.
The expanded roster allowing for two-way contracts into the G-League also makes it easier for the Warriors to add such a player to the roster. The staff down at Santa Cruz is one of the best and they have done a great job of getting players ready for the main roster. Bringing in Barry is something that everyone could get behind.
