The Golden State Warriors were able to add a few more awards to their 2017 championship season at the first ever NBA Awards show.
The Golden State Warriors won the NBA championship. They dominated and proved that they are one of the best teams of all-time. They got the hardware that matters most: the Larry O’Brien trophy.
If the Warriors were going to get any accolade, it would be the championship. Still, it’s nice to be recognized for all of the work you put in all year long, both on an individual and collective level. And Golden State did a lot of great things.

The Dubs won big at the first ever NBA Awards. They came away with several awards. The fans and the media both showed their support for the Warriors.
The most surprising win of the night came from Klay Thompson. He was given the Performance of the Year award by the fans for his incredible 60 point-29 minute performance against the Indiana Pacers. It wasn’t surprising because it wasn’t a great performance (it absolutely was), but because he was going up against tough competition like James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Devin Booker’s 70 point night.
Golden State also won Assist of the Year. It was the incredible combo (that was, coincidentally, in that same game against Indiana) from Draymond Green, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant that resulted in an alley-oop. Green threw a Hail Mary to Curry, Curry jumped up and threw the ball over his head, and Durant flushed it down.
Durant also won the Best Playoff Moment for his clutch three-pointer in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. It was the biggest shot of his career and, definitely, one of the biggest makes in Warriors franchise history. With the game hanging in the balance, Durant pulled up for a three in LeBron James’ face on his court and splashed it.
Bob Myers came away with Executive of the Year for the second time. He won it two years ago after he assembled a championship team. This time, he earned it for managing to bring Kevin Durant onboard while still building the best bench in the game.

The biggest and best award the Warriors got was Draymond Green’s first Defensive Player of the Year award. After finishing as Kawhi Leonard’s runner up for two years in a row, Green finally nabbed that first one. When he gave his speech (in which he expressed his discontent with the fact that Durant and Thompson were left off of All-Defense teams), it was clear that he wanted this award a lot.
No Warrior finished in the top five for MVP voting, but they have the reigning Finals MVP on their team. I think they’ll take that deal every year. Golden State won the title and had some nice complementary accolades to go with it.
