The Golden State Warriors will be prepared for whatever free agency brings them as soon as the clock strikes midnight on the east coast.

Free agency is almost here in the NBA, as the clock will strike midnight on Friday leading into Saturday. When this happens, the floodgates will open and teams will begin wasting money they will later regret years down the road. This is an important free agency for the Golden State Warriors.

While the two big pieces, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, will not be going anywhere, they have to figure out what happens with Andre Iguodala and others. Conventional wisdom says the sixth man will be back since the Warriors can go over the cap to sign him, but things could get interesting.

He’s going to have a ton of interest from other teams and there might even be some that are willing to throw so much money at him, the Warriors would have to figure out if the luxury tax is even worth it at that point.

Hopefully it doesn’t end up getting to such a point, but if it does, you better believe the team will be prepared. Bob Myers has done a great job of stocking younger players on the bench that are ready for increased roles should Iguodala leave.

It would be tough for the Warriors to go out and replace Iguodala with another player without bird rights. That’s why the aforementioned conventional wisdom points to his return so long as the team can give him fair value in comparison to what the market is offering.

Myers thinks two steps ahead with his moves and he doesn’t sit back and wait. Draft night was a reminder once again of how far ahead he is thinking, when he went out and added Jordan Bell to the roster.

Don’t sleep on the young players on this roster becoming key contributors off the bench. Patrick McCaw is carving out a nice role for himself after a good rookie campaign. When the Warriors are capped out, Myers has to go to other methods to find talent, via second-round gems and late picks. So in short, they could lose some players in free agency like Iguodala, Shaun Livingston and Ian Clark. If they do, they have options in place ready to go.
