Bob Myers dominated the draft and free agency for the Golden State Warriors. Is there anything that he can’t do to help this team?

Having won Executive of the Year twice in the last three years, Bob Myers has added onto his legacy in the NBA. The success of the Golden State Warriors has been largely due to the crafty genius that is Myers. After yet another title this past year, the Warriors could have just have easily stood pat with what they have.

That’s not the way Myers rolls and he has made sure to put his name in contention for a third award next year. It all started on draft night, when Myers shocked everyone and paid a lot of money to the Chicago Bulls for the chance to draft Jordan Bell.

Adding a potential rim protector that could pay off huge dividends for Golden State was a massive coup. As soon as the deal happened on the draft night, it was as if the groans from the rest of the league were audible.

He didn’t finish there either. Any hopes of stopping the Warriors or at least slowing them down rested on the chances of prying guys away in free agency. Key role pieces like Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston had chances to collect a lot of money.

Instead, Kevin Durant took a big pay cut from what he was expected to make and the Warriors were able to retain each of their key bench pieces. They even were able to retain veteran David West as well for depth up front.

With most teams probably shaking their heads at not being able to take anything from Golden State, Myers once again put the nail in the proverbial coffin of the rest of the teams hoping for some sort of break. The additions of Omri Casspi and Nick Young to Golden State are almost unfair and it’s incredible the way he was able to navigate their additions onto the roster.

A team that was supposed to have a tough time without a draft pick and very little money to spend, ended up with a quality big man and a great free agency. Myers didn’t just keep the team together, he made them even better.
