Golden State Warriors: There isn’t a team like them in any sports
The Golden State Warriors stand alone as the model for excellency in professional sports. No team, not even the Los Angeles Dodgers, are like them.
If you do a Google search for “Golden State Warriors,” you’ll stumble across a lot of interesting things (including some BlueManHoop pieces). The Warriors are the best team in professional sports so, naturally, they’re going to have a lot of coverage on them. Furthermore, there’s going to be a lot of hot takes as well.
Still, one stands out. The Washington Post‘s Adam Kilgore wrote an article titled “the Los Angeles Dodgers have become baseball’s version of the Golden State Warriors.” And, yes, it’s as silly as it sounds.

The Dodgers are currently playing amazing baseball. As I write this, they have the best record in the league. As a San Francisco Giants fan, it pains me to say this, but the Dodgers are the best team in the Majors right now. They are clicking in every way.
Still, that doesn’t make them anywhere near the Warriors. If we were to rank teams on tiers there would be good followed by great then, after a huge ascent, the Warriors. They are in a class of their own.
The Dodgers have not won a World Series since the 1980’s. They have won two playoff series since 2013. The Dubs have lost one series in the last three years, winning two championships in that time frame.
As Kilgore admits, baseball just doesn’t allow for a team like the Warriors to exist. Still, they are doing extremely well in their own right. They’re utilizing every resource at their disposal, even taking unconventional approaches in their pursuit of victories.
But there is no team like the Warriors. The Pittsburgh Penguins have won two in a row, but even that isn’t enough. What Golden State has built is bigger than just winning.
They are the standard. From top to bottom, the organization exemplifies excellence and innovation. They have redefined greatness. They are #LightYears ahead of everyone else.

It’s unfair to call any team the Warriors of their particular sport, especially in North American sports. Perhaps the argument can be made for European soccer clubs, but definitely not any team in the States. The Warriors just can’t get it wrong right now.
And now here’s the Giants fan in me coming out: if the Dodgers want to become baseball’s Golden State Warriors, then maybe they should at least make it to the World Series. And even if Clayton Kershaw overcomes his playoff woes and Los Angeles wins a championship…they need to do it again.
