Golden State Warriors: Where would Kyrie Irving be the biggest threat?
3. New Orleans Pelicans
Kyrie Irving isn’t just guaranteed to land on one of the four teams on his preferred destinations list. With a talent like him becoming available, a majority of the teams are going to be checking in with the Cleveland Cavaliers to see what they would want in return.
Therefore, there’s going to speculation and drumming up ideas as to what would be a good pair. Zach Lowe had an interesting thought on Friday, which was the pairing of Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis.
While the Pelicans are seemingly trying to become guard city as they look to add any scoring they can, Kyrie Irving would alleviate those issues. However, it would have to come at the expense of ditching the DeMarcus Cousins experiment early.
It’s a tough sell for the Pelicans, as they really haven’t gotten much time with their two big men together. However, today’s NBA doesn’t really seem to favor that type of rotation and they weren’t exactly exciting in the games that they did play together.
A duo of Irving and Davis is certainly an exciting one and one that would thrive in today’s league. If they could fill out the roster with some better pieces, they could certainly give the Golden State Warriors enough trouble. Probably not right away, but definitely down the line.
