KD in India

There are just a handful of superstars in the league. LeBron James and Kevin Durant have been in the upper tier for years now, with Stephen Curry joining them recently. While it’s possible that guys like Russell Westbrook and James Harden are on-court baskeball superstars, the true superstars are bigger than just the game.

Durant is global. His brand, thanks to his elite play and Nike’s branding, is worldwide. He’s built a huge fan base outside of the United States.

He’s a huge part of the continued globalization of basketball. He’s helping bring it to other places of the world and strengthen the NBA’s reach. The most recent stop on his tour was India.

Durant has spent a few days in India, taking in the sites and bringing the game to the people there. He helped inaugurate two courts in Delhi. He also set a pretty big record in the process.

The 2017 Finals MVP set a Guinness World Record for leading the largest basketball lesson. Indian students of the game filled a large auditorium that KD was in. Durant taught hoops to 3,459 kids.

The trip has also led to some pretty amazing photos. The one above is spectacular. Durant has also documented it himself, posting a video on his YouTube channel about his experience.
