There is never a dull moment in the NBA offseason. Just when it looks like everything has quieted down around the league, something happens that shakes everything up. In what has been an offseason to remember, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics have made a huge deal while the Golden State Warriors sit atop their throne.
The Cavaliers, according to Brian Windhorst, will be sending Kyrie Irving to their rivals in the East for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets pick in 2018. This is an absolutely loaded deal for both sides.
The Celtics are buying in on Irving being better than Thomas and hoping that adding him to Gordon Hayward and Al Horford will put them over the top in the Eastern Conference. Cleveland on the other hand is getting a point guard that they believe is just as talented along with a key draft pick that could maybe convince LeBron into staying.
It’s rare when two top contenders deal with each other in such a manner, but this is very interesting. It also begs the question – are the Celtics now contenders to the Golden State Warriors?

We know that Irving has been a thorn in the side of Golden State for some time now. Adding Hayward to the mix and a talented young rookie in Jayson Tatum to a roster with plenty of quality vets could make them a favorite to win the east now.
Still, whether it’s the Cavaliers or the Celtics, they both have a lot of work to prove that they are indeed on the Warriors’ level. Golden State managed to make their team even deeper in free agency in an era where that just doesn’t happen. It’s going to be a wild ride in the NBA next season.
