Nothing will bring out a reaction from a professional at any level more than player rankings. It’s one thing to hear criticism from fans and others, but the minute rankings come out, then it’s as if all bets are off. So when a player ranking comes out that has others scratching their heads, people are going to voice their opinions. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was the latest to speak out but it wasn’t about his own.
Instead, it was about the ESPN ranking of Carmelo Anthony. In an interview with Chris Haynes, Green mentioned that although Anthony isn’t the same player that he once was, there is no way he is only the 64th best player in the NBA. Warning: NSFW Language
“So, I’m not going to sit here and lie and act like he is the Melo he was five years ago, but the 64th-best player in the NBA? All right, five years ago he was maybe sixth. He ain’t f—ing 64 .”
For all the trash talk that exists in the NBA and a lot of it comes from Green, he also isn’t going to shy away from standing up for a fellow player. Very few keep it real in the manner that he does and the rankings that have come out this week have certainly generated plenty of attention.

That is the very nature of rankings in a nutshell and no one is ever going to be happy with their ranking unless they are at the top. In this case, Anthony really took a dive and it will be interesting to see how his play responds. One thing is for sure and that is Green has his back. It’s quite the irony, especially if Anthony gets traded to another west contender sometime down the road.
