The Warriors travel to Houston to take on the Rockets in a battle of the top two teams in the Western Conference tonight. Golden State will have to win without Kevin Durant as he will be on the bench with a calf injury.

A week ago, tonight’s game between the Warriors and Rockets looked like it would pit two of the top MVP candidates against each other in Kevin Durant and James Harden. However, both of these teams will be shorthanded on Thursday night as Durant and Harden will be watching this one from the sidelines as they nurse injuries.

Durant played well in last night’s win over the Mavericks with 25 points on 10-of-21 shooting with 12 rebounds, six assists, and four blocks while playing 38 minutes. Apparently he tweaked his calf during the first quarter in Dallas, which has caused the Warriors to shut him down for tonight’s game in Houston.

James Harden will also sit out tonight’s game as he continues to nurse a hamstring injury.

More from Blue Man Hoop

Kevin Durant has been critical to the Warriors’ success this season as Steph Curry and Draymond Green have both missed significant time this year with various injuries. Durant is filling up the stat sheet this season averaging nearly 26 points per game with 7.1 rebounds, 5.3 assists and a career-high 2.3 blocks per game.

Durant’s absence will be felt on both sides of the court as he’s made a case to be the Defensive Player of the Year along with his obvious contributions on the offensive end.

The Warriors are still favored to win tonight, but it will definitely be a tougher task to come out of Houston victorious without Kevin Durant.
