Golden State Warriors: Is a trade for Tyreke Evans worth considering?

The Golden State Warriors haven’t been linked to Tyreke Evans, who is rumored to be available prior to the NBA trade deadline.

Although I still find myself a bit salty over the fact Tyreke Evans beat out Stephen Curry for Rookie of the Year honors in 2010, I wouldn’t mind at all if the Golden State Warriors attempted to facilitate a deal for Evans prior to the Feb. 8 trade deadline this season.

A 6-foot-6 guard capable of creating his own offense, Evans is having his best season to date. The 28 year old has been straight up balling for the Memphis Grizzlies, which means his very presence is detrimental to the team’s plans to start a rebuild by tanking this season.

Rumor has it that the Grizz are so desperate to move Evans, they are willing to part with him for the small price of a first round pick. Trade talks have been heating up as of late, so the team has opted to sit him until the situation is resolved.

But what I find amazingly weird is that despite having a need for a creator off the bench and having multiple future first rounders available, the Warriors have been in no way linked to Evans prior to the trade deadline.

Playing on a 1-year, $3.2 million contract, Evans is an absolute steal. He’s averaging 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.0 steals in 31.1 minutes per game, and he’s been incredibly efficient all seasonlong, shooting 45.8 percent from the field, 39.2 percent from behind the arc and 79.9 percent from the free throw line.

I think the Warriors would be more than willing to fork over their 2018 first rounder, though I suspect the Grizz probably wouldn’t bite on that. Nevertheless, I think a future first rounder (2020, 2021) would prove just as valuable.

The Warriors could also very well part ways with Nick Young, whose role would be taken over by Evans. If the Grizz want a younger option with more upside, then I think Patrick McCaw would more than suffice.

In addition, Evans has a connection to current Warriors general manager, Bob Myers, who formerly acted as Evans’ agent.

While the Dubs certainly don’t NEED Evans, adding him would undoubtedly be the right step toward securing a championship this season — not to mention it would keep him away from the clutches of Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics, who would benefit a great deal by adding Evans to their roster.
