The Golden State Warriors just didn’t have enough firepower to overcome the San Antonio Spurs on Monday.
The Golden State Warriors could very well end up facing the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs, which is definitely a scary thought considering tonight’s outcome.
Wrapping up a short, 2-game road trip with with a visit to the AT&T Center, the reigning NBA champions fell 89-74 to their former Western Conference rivals, allowing the Spurs to avoid dropping to the eighth seed.
Falling behind 18-6 in the first five minutes of the game, the Warriors answered with a small run to cut the first quarter deficit to nine. Golden State continued to lay on the pressure in the second quarter by bringing the game to within six, but a buzzer-beater by Bryn Forbes allowed the Spurs to go back up to eight at halftime.
It was only after a 22-12 third quarter that the Dubs were able to establish a small, 2-point lead going into the final 12 minutes. Unfortunately, the Warriors were simply unable to stop LaMarcus Aldridge down the stretch, who posted 33 points (19 in Q4) on 13-of-22 shooting.
