JP Tokoto earned a lot of playing time for the Golden State Warriors during Summer League. Did he play well enough to earn a contract?
The Golden State Warriors are looking to add some wings to their roster this offseason, so they gave JP Tokoto a look during this year’s Summer League.
Tokoto was a second round pick coming out of North Carolina in 2015 and played two seasons in the G League with the Oklahoma City Blue and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers before playing for the Perth Wildcats in the Australian National Basketball League last year.
Tokoto joined the Warriors’ Summer League roster in Sacramento where he played 24 minutes per night in two games.
Tokoto scored 3.5 points per game on 3/14 from the field with 6.5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game.
Tokoto played in all four games in the Las Vegas Summer League logging 21.8 minutes per game.
Tokoto scored the ball much better in the Vegas going 11/23 from the field with 7.3 points per game. He also grabbed 4 rebounds, dished 1.8 assists, and swiped 2.3 steals per game in Vegas.
The 6-foot 7-inch small forward is known as a defensive specialist and he showed that by racking up both blocks and steals during the Summer League schedule.

Tokoto is obviously pretty limited on the offensive end, but he scored efficiently in Las Vegas.
Tokoto is still only 24 years old, and his defensive skills may have impressed Golden State’s front office enough to sign him to a G League contract for the upcoming season.
