2. Wilt Chamberlain

Blocks weren’t recorded as an official stat during Wilt Chamberlain‘s career, but it’s safe to say the legendary 7-foot, 1-inch center swatted plenty of shots while he was dominating the league.

Chamberlain’s rebounding numbers alone should land him near the top of any list of great defenders.

He is the NBA’s all-time leader in career rebounds per game with 22.9, and he was even more of a beast during his six-year stint with the Warriors’ organization grabbing 25.1 boards per game in that span.

The team ranked second in the league in defensive rating twice during Chamberlain’s time with the Warriors, and he was obviously a main reason for their defensive success.

While we don’t have the stats or video to fully understand how great of a defender Wilt Chamberlain really was, we can assume that he struck fear into opponents’ hearts on the defensive end.
