Warriors: Best Free Agent Signings in Golden State History
By Andrew Ites
2. DeMarcus Cousins
The Warriors got the biggest steal of the offseason when they signed DeMarcus Cousins to a one-year deal worth $5.3 million with their taxpayer mid-level exception.
There wasn’t much of a market for Cousins after a couple of teams with cap space had already signed centers, and some front offices weren’t willing to take a risk on a 7-foot center coming off of a ruptured Achilles.
The two-time All-NBA player and four-time All-Star obviously brings a ton of talent to an already-loaded roster in Golden State, but he also brings some uncertainty recovering from an injury and his character issues in the past.
However, the Warriors were the perfect team to take a risk on him.
They won’t need him to rush back from his injury, and if he creates a problem with team chemistry Golden State can cut him without losing too much money.
The risk is low and the upside is huge in the signing of DeMarcus Cousins.
