Golden State Warriors: Ranking the team’s top 25 options in free agency
Taj Gibson
If DeMarcus Cousins is to leave Golden State, the Dubs could use a back-to-the-basket scoring option. For Gibson, it’d be a perfect fit after spending a few seasons on the dysfunctional Timberwolves.
Gibson isn’t a three-point threat, but he did shoot 56.6% from the field this season. To be fair, he did shoot 35% from three, making just .2 per game. While not his strength, Gibson’s ability to dominate the paint is an important aspect of his game.
He shot nearly 70% from within three feet. That said, Gibson also averaged 2.5 offensive rebounds per game. He’s a gritty, team-first player that crashes the glass with reckless abandon. He’d be a great addition.
As with every other target, Gibson would almost certainly be playing at a discount in Golden State. Is he willing to do that would be the biggest question? Without much known on Gibson’s radar or those offering him a contract, he comes in at No. 21 on our free agent rankings.
