It appears unlikely that Klay Thompson will play for the Golden State Warriors this season.

Fans of the Golden State Warriors have been eagerly waiting for Klay Thompson to make a successful return from his devasting ACL injury.

Thompson has been sidelined since Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals when he collapsed to the floor and tore his ACL. Since then, Thompson has been steadily rehabbing his knee but is still far from a potential return.

The other half of the Splash Brothers, Stephen Curry, has been recovering from a broken left hand that he suffered early this season. Without the two backcourt All-Stars, the Warriors have dropped to a 9-30 record.

Steve Kerr recently gave quick updates for both Curry and Thompson. Kerr told reporter Chris Haynes that Curry will for sure be back before this season’s end, while Thompson is doubtful.

“His (Curry’s) injury is not nearly as serious as Klay’s because we’re dealing with a hand and not a knee,” Kerr said. In contrast, Kerr believes Thompson’s knee injury will hold him for the rest of the season.

He has a point. It will be much easier for Curry to return from his hand injury and there is less of a risk in his case.

As for Thompson, we all know how tough knee injuries can be to recover from. There is no use in rushing Thompson back and putting him at risk of furthering his struggles. The Warriors shouldn’t be looking to push for the playoffs anyway.

The return of Curry will at least give Dubs fans a ray of sunshine. The Warriors can look forward to an electric finish to the season as Curry is expected to be back by March. With Curry back in the lineup, the team should be much more competitive.
