Use their MLE

The Warriors, on top of their Andre Iguodala-created exception, will have the mid-level exception to use as well. While it will be almost a third the value of the trade exception, the Warriors will still have the ability to snap a player that’ll fill a hole in the roster.

Given the aforementioned financial burdens, it wouldn’t be crazy to think the team will use their MLE but not the more expensive exception. That said, a player like Marc Gasol, or one of the other nine we previewed here, could be potential options for Golden State.

Adding a player like DeMarcus Cousins or Nerlens Noel could significantly boost the team’s frontcourt strength. While they have Marquese Chriss and Kevon Looney, neither are terrific rim-running or rim-protecting options.

The Warriors have the holes to fill. The MLE is a start, and using it, given that it should only be around $6 million, should be a no-brainer for management if they want to continue the Warriors’ winning ways.
