The Golden State Warriors could be playing basketball once again in the foreseeable future. The Warriors are reportedly a part of NBA’s second bubble for teams who aren’t involved in Orlando.

This proposal would see the Warriors join the Bulls, Timberwolves, Hawks, Knicks, Cavaliers, Hornets and the Pistons in Chicago for what would essentially be a preseason tournament.

Although the second bubble makes little sense for Dubs stars Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green to participate, it will hold value for the Warriors as Steve Kerr and Bob Myers look to figure out their 2020-21 roster.

The tournament will be able to give players currently at the backend of the roster like Ky Bowman, Mychal Mulder, Juan Toscano-Anderson, and Dragan Bender a chance to showcase themselves as they look to secure a roster spot.

Players like Eric Paschall, Jordan Poole and Marquese Chriss will be given extra opportunity to develop, getting that extra time on the court will be vital for the Baby Dubs if they’re to return to contention.

The bubble which would essentially be a mini Summer League would give the Warriors a bigger sample size on what they have at their disposal.

All four of the players at the backend of the roster have different strengths, the Dubs just need to figure out which two of the four are the better assets and how they can be incorporated into the squad,

As it stands the Warriors will 13 players Curry, Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Green, Kevon Looney, Poole, Damion Lee, Chriss, Alen Smailagic, Paschall, a first-round draft pick and the two players acquired via the trade and mid-level exception under guaranteed contracts next season.

That will leave just two spots for Bowman, Mulder, Toscano-Anderson, Bender and whoever is invited to training camp prior to the start of next season. Regardless of what Kerr and Myers do it won’t be easy.

Bowman enjoyed a strong start to the season before his shooting percentages regressed and lost his backup point guard role to Poole.

However, unless the Warriors add a point guard via the draft or through the exceptions, depth behind Curry would be perilously thin. That may help keep the former Boston College man on the roster.

Mulder has value as a three-point specialist and would likely be sought after in free agency should the Dubs let him walk. The wing was also playing as well as anyone in the Bay prior to the shutdown and earned a non-guaranteed multi-year deal in the process.

Golden State are reportedly high on his shot-making ability and commitment to playing defense. It is easy to see where his three and D role fits in next year’s team.

Bender’s potential as a stretch big intrigues the Warriors and his 23 points on 8-12 shooting display against the Clippers in Golden State’s final game did nothing but help his cause.

While Toscano-Anderson is a fan favorite and has made quite an impression on the Dubs coaching staff thus far.
