The Golden State Warriors have shown interest in several prospects but, if they land the No. 1 pick, expect only a handful to be viable options.

There’s no denying this has been a tough season for the Golden State Warriors. After six straight seasons of over 50 wins, the Warriors had just 15 throughout the 2019-2020 season, amassing 50 losses.

There were clear reasons why the team struggled. Stephen Curry, a two-time MVP, and Klay Thompson, a five-time All-Star, combined for just five games, the former being out with a broken hand and the latter with a torn ACL.

The Dubs were led by D’Angelo Russell for most of the season.

After trading Russell, the team was able to see Andrew Wiggins, the player they returned for the All-Star guard, for 12 games. It didn’t matter as the Dubs were still out of playoff contention when the league shut down in the middle of March.

As Larry Beil, who interviewed Warriors’ majority owner Joe Lacob, notes, the Warriors have a guaranteed top-five pick. With a 14% chance at securing the top spot, here is what Lacob told Beil on the prospects Golden State is targeting.

“Well I’m supposed to answer, ‘No, of course not,’ No. I think we have a good idea between — let’s say — a couple of guys that we might be really focused in on if we got the No. 1 pick,” Lacob responded.

The Warriors have either given us a few clues as to who those players are or have given several smokescreens over the last few months.

We’ve written most recently that they feel Anthony Edwards is a franchise player. Center James Wiseman and guard Tyrese Haliburton have seemingly also piqued the team’s interest in the last several months.

There’s also a call to trade the pick.

Many fans may think it’d be ideal to trade the pick, something the team will consider. All options are on the table for Golden State in their quest to build a championship-level roster for this coming season.
