The Golden State Warriors might have to face yet another setback in their comeback as Woj reported that the 2020 NBA Draft could be postponed.

Well, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. As off-court issues continue to wage war on the rest of the world – Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the league is moving towards delaying the 2020 NBA Draft and pushing the start of next season back from it’s Dec. 1 targetted date. What does this mean for the Golden State Warriors?

The Warriors recently had some good luck for the first time in what feels like ages. They drew the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming draft and a chance to draft a top prospect or trade the pick for more assets. Whatever they decide to do, the franchise now has more time to think of the best option.

Initially, the draft was set to take place on October 16 with free agency beginning two days later. These are two huge periods for the Warriors who will look to fully utilize their $17 million dollar trade exception and $6 million mid-level exceptions to build a championship-caliber roster around Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

This hectic time-frame could have played into the Warriors’ hands as other franchises might have felt pressure to make moves quickly. For example, the Philadelphia 76ers would have had little time in between a disastrous postseason and free agency to fully plan for the future. Instead, Philly will have plenty of time to forget their failures and look ahead to a new plan with a new coach.

The Warriors are still in a great position. This additional time off gives them a chance to look further at the top draft prospects. Furthermore, they can continue to monitor other teams for potential trades. We just might have to wait a little while longer to see what they do.
