The Golden State Warriors are reportedly much higher on the guards in this year’s NBA Draft than the potentially great big men.

The speculation continues for who the Golden State Warriors will select in the 2020 NBA Draft. It seems to be a general consensus from the fanbase that James Wiseman is the Warriors’ unheralded No. 1 option in the draft. However, sources close to the team say otherwise.

Wes Goldberg spoke on the ‘Locked on Warriors‘ Podcast about the upcoming draft and where the franchise will go. He had this to say about James Wiseman and how the Warriors view this year’s draft class:

"“My intel from people I talk to is that the Warriors aren’t high on Wiseman,” he said. “I reported last week that the Warriors are much higher on this class’ guards and wings than they are on this class’ centers, and I still think that they’re going to go in that direction — even if Anthony Edwards is off the board.”"

We have known for quite some time that the Warriors are interested in Anthony Edwards. The Georgia guard has shown high-upside as a scorer and could easily become an effective perimeter defender. However, with the Minnesota Timberwolves winning the lottery, most assume Edwards will end up being the No. 1 overall pick.

Consequently, this seemed to be all the more reason for the Dubs to select Wiseman – as the center position is the weakest spot in their rotation. Instead, Goldberg believes the franchise will continue to look for another guard.

LaMelo Ball is an interesting prospect that could elevate the Warriors to a new level with his size and playmaking. The potential for a three-guard lineup with Ball, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson is intriguing.

Above all else, we have to acknowledge the Dubs can still look to combine their pick with another player to trade for a bigger package. Until the draft takes place – we truly can’t tell what direction the franchise will go.
