The Golden State Warriors added an instant-impact draftee with their second-overall pick. Welcome to the Bay Area, James Wiseman.

If you told many fans months ago that the Golden State Warriors were actually going to use their first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, they’d call you crazy.

The Warriors needed the assets to contend, not a player that could take a few years to develop. In their mind, they got a player that can make an instant impact and a player that can be a star for the long-term future.

The Warriors added James Wiseman over a few other top-tier prospects that many teams had their eye on. LaMelo Ball went immediately after the Warriors at No. 3. Patrick Williams then went to the Bulls. Players like Killian Hayes also went within the next few picks.

While there’s not too much known about the value of Golden State’s pick, it clearly wasn’t a deal they wanted to make happen. There was some speculation before the draft that the team could’ve dealt the No. 2 pick for the No. 4 pick and Wendell Carter Jr.

Given that the Warriors just received news that Klay Thompson may be out this upcoming season with a serious leg injury, that deal may have been a terrific move for the team, adding size and another scoring optiion. It didn’t happen, and they went with Wiseman.

That said, let’s dive into why he’ll be the perfect addition.
